Frequently Asked Questions
Families have a lot of questions when they’re exploring senior living. This page gathers the most common questions we hear about life at Knollwood Pointe, from daily routines and safety to visits, costs, and how to get started.
General Questions
Where is Knollwood Pointe located?
Knollwood Pointe is located in Mobile, Alabama, in a convenient residential area close to medical offices, shopping, and major roadways. When you schedule a tour, we’ll send simple turn-by-turn directions and help with parking and entry.
What types of care do you provide?
We offer Assisted Living and Memory Care. Assisted Living is designed for residents who are mostly independent but benefit from help with daily tasks such as medications, bathing, dressing, and housekeeping. Memory Care provides a secure, structured setting for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia.
Is Knollwood Pointe a nursing home?
No. Knollwood Pointe is an Assisted Living and Memory Care community, not a skilled nursing facility. We focus on daily support, wellness, social engagement, and a homelike environment. If someone needs ongoing medical or rehabilitation services, we can help coordinate with outside providers.
Daily Life & Activities
What does a typical day look like for residents?
A typical day includes three chef-prepared meals, assistance with medications, and a variety of activities such as exercise classes, games, crafts, devotionals, music, and small group outings. Residents can participate as much or as little as they like, with staff nearby to offer support throughout the day.
Can residents choose their own schedules?
Yes. While we offer a full monthly calendar, residents are free to choose the activities, meal times, and quiet time that feel best for them. Our team encourages engagement but respects each person’s preferred routine and energy level.
How are meals handled if someone has dietary needs?
Our dining team can accommodate many common dietary needs, such as low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, or texture-modified meals. When a resident moves in, we review allergies, preferences, and physician-recommended guidelines so we can serve meals that are both enjoyable and appropriate.
Safety, Staffing & Health
Is there staff on site 24/7?
Yes. Knollwood Pointe has trained staff in the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Team members are available for scheduled support, unscheduled needs, and emergencies, day or night.
How do you help keep residents safe?
Safety is a daily priority. We monitor entrances and exits, support safe transfers and mobility, assist with medications, and provide regular check-ins. Our Memory Care neighborhood features secure access to help protect residents who may be at risk of wandering.
Do you coordinate with residents’ doctors?
Yes. Families are welcome to keep their loved one’s existing physicians. Our team can help coordinate transportation and share needed information with the physician’s office, so that everyone stays informed about changes in care or medications.
Family Visits & Communication
What are your visiting hours?
Generally, family and close friends are welcome to visit throughout the day. For the comfort of all residents, we ask that visits during early mornings and late evenings be arranged with the team in advance. During your tour, we’ll review current guidelines and best times to visit.
Can families join residents for meals or activities?
Absolutely. Families are encouraged to join their loved one for meals, special events, and everyday activities when possible. Just let us know ahead of time if you’ll be joining for a meal so we can reserve space and plan accordingly.
How will I know if there is a change in my loved one’s condition?
Communication with families is very important to us. If we notice a meaningful change in health, behavior, appetite, or mobility, our team will reach out to you to discuss what we’re seeing and recommend next steps. We also encourage regular check-ins and care conferences.
Costs, Insurance & Next Steps
How much does it cost to live at Knollwood Pointe?
Monthly rates depend on the type of apartment, level of support needed, and whether the resident is in Assisted Living or Memory Care. During a tour, we’ll provide a clear outline of current rates, what’s included, and any available specials so there are no surprises.
Do you accept long-term care insurance or veterans’ benefits?
Many families use long-term care insurance policies or veterans’ benefits to help offset the cost of Assisted Living or Memory Care. While payments are typically made by the family, we can provide documentation needed for reimbursement and share resources to help explore benefit options.
How do we know if Knollwood Pointe is the right fit?
The best next step is to schedule a tour, meet our team, and talk through your loved one’s daily needs and goals. We’ll give you an honest assessment, answer your questions, and, if another type of setting would be more appropriate, help point you in the right direction.
How do we get started?
You can get started by calling our community or submitting a contact form on our website. We’ll help you schedule a tour, review pricing and care options, and outline the steps for a smooth move-in when you’re ready.
